Review: Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control

I mentioned back in June that I have been caught up on one of the latest beauty trends to hit Korea  -  cushions! In the last two years almost every Korean beauty brand has come up with some sort of cushion concept makeup, some offering many different ones to suit different needs.
If you're not familiar with cushion compacts they are designed to be and easier and more convenient way to apply your base makeup. Perfect for a girl on the go. I can remember back when BB creams were the latest craze the idea was to pat and press on the product with your fingers and the puff in way mimics that action.
My interest in cushions was sparked with IOPE Air Cushion XP which offered a more dewy finish. I really liked it but when I found out that Laneige was releasing the BB Cushion (Pore Control) I knew I had to pick it up knowing it's more ideal for oilier skin types or humid conditions.

Why are cushions so great? Cushion technology is suppose to improve foundation/BB/CC application by making it smoother to apply allowing for a more natural finish. This is achieved in 3 ways:
1. Cooling down the skin by 3 degrees celsius making it more ideal for makeup application and touch ups. This is via aeration through the air cushions on pressure and the double barrier packaging which keeps the product cooler.
2. Breaking up the particles in the cream and hence creating a finer product.
3. Breakthrough puff allows for more effective application.

Review

Please be warned as my skin is no where near perfect. I have large pores, redness, hyper-pigmentation and acne scarring (let me say this once and for all, I hate high quality photos. You see everything!). Looking at the before and after shots below you can definitely see this BB cushion work it's magic (photos are 100% unretouched). With one layer I did manage to get light-medium coverage. My skin looks more even and the finish is a natural semi-matte. You can build it up to medium-full coverage if you wanted.

I purchased it in no. 21 Natural Beige which is a good match for my light-medium complexion.   It didn't oxidise on me unlike some other BB creams I've tried. It also provides good sun protection of SPF 50 PA+++.

The puff really does give you better control over the amount of product you're applying and creates an even finish. It really is easy!

Having combination/oily skin, oil control is definitely a huge factor for me. I find that the oil control and lasting power is good. Used with a light setting powder I did need to blot my t-zone towards the 6-7 hours mark (normally I'm an oil slick by the fourth hour). Most importantly it didn't break me out!

One negative I have to add is that the BB cream has the tendency to cling on to dry patches so I wouldn't recommend it for those with dry skin or. Instead the IOPE Air Cushion XP would be more ideal with a more dewy finish. If you get the odd dry patch like I do exfoliating is a must.

As with most cushions it does come with a refill and one refill lasts me approximately 6 weeks with everyday use. Prices range around $60AUD and you can purchase it off websites like YesStyle but I purchased mine off eBay as YesStyle didn't have it available at the time. Refills are also available separately.

Would I repurchase?

Yes. I've only tried two cushions so far and this is definitely my pick but the beauty addict in me has me curious to try others like the Innisfree Long Wear Cushion.

Have you tried cushions before? Which is your favourite? I would love to hear your recommendations.
